3 Things I Can’t Live Without for Summer Riding & Competing
By: Gabby Brown
1. Fly Bye Plus! Insect Repellent Spray
My horse is very sensitive to bugs and flies during the summer and there are only a few fly sprays that work for her but the one that used to work best eventually started to cause hives when used so I found this spray which doesn’t have all of the chemicals that other fly sprays have.
2. Ecogold Saddle Pads
I love my Ecogold pads year round but during the summer my favorite ones are the Cool Fit and the Secure pads! The Cool Fit pads are great during the summer because they have the technology to sense sweat and will reduce temperature and evaporate moisture. Secure pads help to keep my tack in place even when my horse is covered in sweat.
3. Poultice/Liniment
It has been very dry on the east coast which means that the ground has gotten really hard. This means I’m taking extra care of my horse’s legs when I ride outside of the ring. When I go on long hacks or do my trot sets, I will lean towards liniment but when I do canter sets, XC school, or compete, I will use poultice and wrap due to the increased impact on the legs.
